We are pleased to welcome Swing Shift Big Band for their Glen Echo debut!  Since 1994, Swing Shift has been rocking the Washington DC metro area and beyond.  Swing Shift has appeared at the Corcoran Art Gallery, the Kennedy Center, the Washington Hilton, and Blues Alley, Washington D.C.’s premiere jazz club. Swing Shift originally formed as an amalgamation of refugees from several area bands, including the Bob Louis Big Band, the Kingsmen, Bifocals, Central Heat, the Redskins Band, and the Post-Nuclear Jazz Society. In 2007, the band conscripted veteran guitarist Matt Trimboli to lead Swing Shift as its musical director.  The band continues to explore new musical terrain while maintaining its traditional big band roots. Admission includes a beginner swing dance lesson with Dabe and Janelle Murphy from 8 – 9 pm, followed by dancing from 9 pm – midnight. Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary. “BIG SWING THING” – Valencia Ballroom, 142 North George Street, York, Pennsylvania 17401; The Big Swing Thing is the region’s largest festival celebrating the music and dance of the Big Band and Swing age. The historic Valencia Ballroom, one of just 4 ballrooms remaining from the Swing Era hosts 8 bands over a 2 day period, for 17 hours of live music. A full slate of dance classes, workshops and performances is also presented as a part of this event.

The inaugural Big Swing Thing, in 2017, drew hundreds of attendees from at least 8 states, and as far away as Phoenix, AZ. This year, we’re expanding from a one day event to a full weekend of exciting music, and dance opportunities for all. Help us to bring you the biggest and best music and dance weekend ever presented in the mid-Atlantic region. Like and share this event with everyone you know who loves swing dance, or just listening to great swing music performed live.
